Everest Trekking requires lots of enthusiasm, patience and mostly flexible number of days to cover the destinations. But priority is not just this, it involves the perfect timing so that you can enjoy the beauty of the mountains.

June is not the month for trekking. This is the start of the monsoon season with frequent rainfall, cloudy skies and increased humidity. 

The moderate temperature ranges from 15°C (59°F) in lower altitudes to -6°C (21°F) near Everest Base Camp (EBC).

There is moderate to strong winds at Everest Region in June. Monsoon season has shifting patterns.

The wind at Everest speeds from 10 to 25 km/h (6 to 15 mph) at higher elevations. Kala Patthar (5,545)  and the summit (8,848m) are the areas. The winds can reach up to 50 to 100 km/h (31 to 62 mph) or more.

Is June a Good Time to Trek to Everest? 

The landscapes or the terrain of Everest is very steep. You will find it more challenging. You need to have stick with you to climb upwards.

So, if you really want to go for Everest, go during pre-monsoon ( March-May) and post- monsoon ( September - November ) season. This will be the best.

How Monsoon Affects Your Expedition in June?

Monsoon brings  heavy rainfall making the routes unable to walk or even stand.

You will see the very heavy rainfall followed by invisibility , obstructed mountain views and light snow or misty conditions. There will be leeches and bugs on the muddy trails.

Permits required for Everest Trek

You will need Sagarmatha National Park Permit to enter this region.

Everest Base Camp is within the area of Sagarmatha National Park. You will need a special license to get entry for this area.

This permit is available for Monjo Check Post or Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu. It ranges Rs 3000 NPR.

You also need Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Municipality Entry Permit. This costs Rs 2000 NPR.

There is another optional permit . If you are traveling from Jiri Side you need Gaurishankar Conservation Area permit at Rs 3000 NPR

. You will also receive discounts for the SAARC nationals if you are Nepalese. 

The SAARC nationals must pay only RS 1000 for the permit and the Nepalese trekkers can get the license for NPR 100.

Alternative Treks to Everest in June: Where to Go for Better Weather

Caution: Trails in Nepal are risky during Monsoon

At Everest , you will find the very unforgivable weather. The muds, the rains, the leeches and the most invisible weather is there during Monsoon.

 But if you are really keen and have your time only during Monsoon from your busy schedule, there are some alternative treks that you can visit. 

Some of the less affected areas are Everest View Trek( which reaches Tengboche Monastery) is there. This gives you the stunning mountain view comparatively weather-related problem. You can trek towards Upper Mustang.

Upper Mustang is a rain-shadow area that remains dry even at monsoon season. It highlights the unique Tibetan culture and dramatic landscapes.
