Two Distinct Trekking Seasons For Annapurna Base Camp Trek

You can trek to Annapurna Base Camp during spring( March to May) and autumn ( September to November).

Spring offers you the blooming rhododendrons, mild temperatures, excellent visibility and Himalayan peaks.Autumn, on the other hand offers you the stable weather and the breathtaking views of Annapurna, Machapuchhare and Hiunchuli.

There are Two Distinct Trekking Seasons

You can choose pre-monsoon  February, March, April and May. These are the ideal months for trekking.

If you are set to trek after monsoon, we strongly suggest trekking in late September, October, November and December. Also early September is an option but we prefer the above months. 

Our favorite months are February, March, November and December.

You can travel to Annapurna Base Camp in January. The area does get a bit chilly higher up -10C/ 14F to – 15 C/ 5F.

Don't forget it has the capability to make the trek slippery with snow at any time of the year. So, if you will be hiking to Annapurna Base Camp during these months, you are definitely going to need warmer gear and other trekking essentials.

Conditions will be tougher if you trek during the winter season.

When planning your trek to the Annapurna region you need to consider the months. Its best for you if you chose the months outlined above.Along with this you also need to consider the reason behind our trip.

The Two Main Months for Trekking

The best trekking time in the Annapurna region is April and October of the year.

Also read the history of dangerous hazards as Ian was in Kathmandu when the earthquake hit. Such incidents cannot be neglected. Since then there were less trekking to Annapurna. However, the trail is back at full strength with many people in the Annapurna region since the earthquakes in 2015.

Spring (March to May)

Spring offers the vibrant landscape with blooming flowers and warm temperatures. it is ideal for nature enthusiasts and photographers.This is why we consider this time a favourable time for trekkers who don’t have that much experience in high-altitude journeys.

Autumn (September to November):

This is the most comfortable time for a trekking adventure amidst the ideal climatic conditions. The weather is clear, the paths are dry and the views of the mountains are simply spectacular.

You will also gain maximum cultural exposure during this time. Suitable for adventures who are looking for stability and novice trekkers.

Winter (December to January): 

Tranquil experience when the mountain landscape is covered with a thick fur of snow. Can be a great experience you but only if you can handle extreme cold.

 The peaceful atmosphere and snow-covered trails add a magical touch to the trek.

Monsoon (June to August):

Unique experience with fewer trekkers. Lush greenery, high-flowing rivers and waterfalls and warm temperatures makes the trails to explore the circuit l if you don’t mind rain and leeches.

The temperature and amount of rainfall in Annapurna Base Camp Trek also vary greatly according to the season of choice and altitude point. The highest altitudes like spring and autumn have stable weather with the least chance of rainfall.

Due to this, these are the best times for Annapurna Base Camp Trek. Monsoon is the time with the maximum temperature and the winter is the coldest time on the mountain.

Temperatures during the ABC Trek are at moderate levels throughout most part of the year at the lower elevations (1,000m to 2,500m). Temperatures start to decrease gradually as you move towards the higher altitude places of the region (3,000m to 4,130m).

Here, temperatures drop below the freezing point at night and early morning during winter months. In regard to the condition of precipitation, autumn and winter season has less possibility of precipitation.

Spring has low to moderate possibilities of precipitation and monsoon has the highest amount of rainfall

What to pack for Each Season at ABC?

Based on the time of year you are traveling, you will need to bring along seasonal gear so that your journey is comfortable and pleasant. You ought to be concerned about bringing along the necessities such as attire, footwear, equipment, personal hygiene, sanitary products, etc.
