George Everest named Mount Everest . Before , Mount Everest was called Peak XV.

In Sanskrit ancient times it was called “ Abode Of the Snows”, Sagarmatha In Nepali and “ Chomolungma” in  Tibet for this mountain range.

Over 500 million years ago, there was a mountain range that was formed by the collision of the Indian plate and the Himalayas lie there today.

Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa climbed the Mount Everest summit on 1953. 

In 1953, Tenzing Norgay Sherpa was a part of British expedition . This expedition was led by John Hunt and returned to Nepal. This was the 9th British Expedition.

This is the fortunate moment when they made the history in this Himalayan Peak.

Junko Tabei , the first Japanese woman to attempt the summit on the top of Mount Everest and also the Seven Summits climbing the highest peak on every continent.

The Italian Survey in 1992 said, the everest height is 8,846m (29,023ft). They used the Global Positioning System and Laser Measurement Technology.

Likewise, the joint venture of China and Nepal in 2020 said the official height of Mt. Everest is 8,848.86 meters) , (snow height) and later was confirmed by China in Chinese Survey.

Note: Over 200 volunteers has climbed towards the Everest Base Camp just to examine blood oxygen levels in this Himalayan Range.

How do we get to the Everest?

Head towards Tribhuvan International Airport(TIA). This is your initial destination. Fly to the Lukla Tenzing Hillary Airport. This is the most dangerous airport in the world. But this will make your journey more thrilling and exciting.

After that, it takes approximately 8-10 days to reach the Everest Base Camp from Lukla. It is located at 17,598 above on the south side of mountains.

But, if you are willing to choose the North side you have to take a flight to Lhasa. Lhasa is the capital of Tibet.

Then head towards the Tibetan plateau. It takes 4-5 days.

You will reach the Everest North Base Camp situated above 5150 meters (16,900 feet)

However, life is not same for everyone. A Chinese Expedition Team in 1960 successfully climbed the Everest through Northeast Ridge.

How to get to Mount Everest?(Destination)

Over a decade, thousands of climbers have climbed the peak of Mount Everest. But before that they have conquered many big and small rugged peaks, dense forests and sparkling streams. Its the matter of practice, passion and the love for the mountains.

You will find several routes to get to this highest mountain but out of all, the two popular destinations stands out.

One is traveling via bus and the next one involves taking a plane to Lukla.

You will start your journey to Everest through Jiri driving all the way from Kathmandu. Jiri is a beautiful town in the eastern part of Nepal. The trek looks extremely difficult however you don't want to miss out the beautiful parts of the journey that you will witness.

Get the perfect view of the scenic villages, green forests and winding hills.

The trek from Jiri to EBC generally takes 18–20 days. The journey entirely depends on the speed and the number of acclimatization of the trekker.

Next alternative way is by air. Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla . Lukla is a small town in the Khumbu region of Nepal. 

The Lukla flight may be an adventure on its own as it is one of the most dangerous airport in Nepal.

From this monastery, take a local bus to the Base Camp or hike towards it. The elevation is about 5,150m/16,900 feet.

What is the current height of Mount Everest?

The official height of Mount Everest was 8.848m(29,029 feet) as determined by the survey of India in 1954. This is before the 2020 measurement.

But currently the official height of Mount Everest is 8,848.86 meters(29,031.60 feet) above the sea level as per the joint survey of Nepal and China in 2020.

Recent studies indicate that Mount Everest is still growing, with an increase of approximately 0.2 to 0.5 millimeters per year due to geological processes.

Can you climb Mount Everest?

Yes,certainly you can climb Mount Everest , but it requires excessive preparation, physical fitness, high-altitude climbing experience, massive financial investment.

How long it takes to climb Mount Everest?

We all know climbing Mount Everest is not everyone’s cup of tea. It needs lots of hardwork, dedication and patience along with the proper planning and executing.

As it is the tallest peak of the world, summiting this Loftiest Peak  takes two months to complete.

You will start your journey from Base Camp( 5,380 meters or 17,600) .Here, climbers will take rest several weeks before they start the ascent. 

The experienced climbers make  their way towards Camp I ( 6,065 meters), Camp ll ( 6,400 meters) , Camp III (7, 100 meters) and Camp IV (7,900 meters) with multiple rests in between to adjust to the high altitude.

The final push to the summit typically occurs in a window of good weather during May, when winds are calmer. The summit attempt usually takes around 6-8 hours from Camp IV, but the descent is just as demanding. 

Overall, the entire expedition can last anywhere from 6-10 weeks, depending on weather conditions, acclimatization needs, and other logistical factors​.
