How to get Dolpo Trek Permits?

To trek in Dolpo, you need to obtain a Dolpo Trek Permit. There are three different types of permits required for Dolpo Trek. These are:

• Upper Dolpo Restricted Area Entry Permit
• Lower Dolpo Restricted Area Entry Permit
• Shey Phoksundo National Park Entry Permit (Not needed for Lower Dolpo)

How to get Dolpo Trek Permits?

At least two trekkers in a group is required to trek in Dolpo Trek as it is a restricted area. You cannot issue a Dolpo Trek Permit if you are a single tekker.

Note: If you're trekking to Dolpo alone and there's already another person trekking on your preferred date, we can issue you a permit. However, if you want to trek alone, we can still issue a permit, but it will cost more than the usual price.

Essential Permits for Your Dolpo Trekking

Shey Phoksundo National Park Permit: This permit is required to enter Shey Phoksundo National Park, which is home to the beautiful Shey Phoksundo Lake. The cost of this permit is US$28 per person.
Upper Dolpo Restricted Area Permit: This permit is required to enter the Upper Dolpo region, which is a restricted area. The cost of this permit is US$500  for the first 10 days, and US$50 for every day thereafter.

Required Documents for Dolpo Trek Permit 

• Original Passport with Valid visa
• A copy of your travel insurance policy

Mastering the Dolpo Trek Permit: Vital Insights and Considerations

You must book your trek with a licensed trekking operator in order to obtain the Upper Dolpo Restricted Area Permit.
The Upper Dolpo Restricted Area Permit is valid for 30 days.
You can extend your Upper Dolpo Restricted Area Permit for an additional 30 days, but you will need to pay an additional US$500 per day.
Children under the age of 10 are not allowed to trek in Upper Dolpo.
Tips for obtaining your Dolpo trek permit:

Apply for your permit well in advance, especially if you are traveling during peak season (April-May and October-November).
Make sure to bring all of the required documentation with you to the Immigration Department.
Be sure to book your trek with a licensed trekking operator.
If you need to extend your permit, do so well in advance.
