Table of Contents

January

The routes above Namche Bazaar and beyond you will find snow-covered trails. Most of the high passes will be closed. Its extreme cold.

In January the locals from Dingboche, Namche, Khumjung and Khunde start to migrate towards Kathmandu as it’s winter. Likewise, the teahouses and some the hotels also remain closed.

You might encounter some of it open on the ends of the Cho La Pass and Renjo La Pass but extremely cold.

If your destination is towards Gokyo Lake. It’s just not winter or cold. You will be amazed to witness the lakes being frozen.

You definitely must skip January as its not the climbing season and it offers very less beauty to witness in this month not just for Everest but for other expeditions as well.

However, January is best for solitude seekers with proper gear.

February

February is a great month for hiking in the Everest region because of the clear skies return and breathtaking mountain views.

At higher elevations, however, it can be as cold as -15°C (5°F) to -20°C (-4°F), particularly at night, making it one of the coldest months.

Although most days are bright, it can get very chilly, especially above 4,000 meters (13,000 feet). The snow-covered scenery adds a wonderful touch, and the trails are more peaceful than during busy times.

February is frigid but scenic.

Having the right equipment, such as sleeping bags and warm clothes, is crucial for a comfortable walk at this time as this month may be suitable for well-prepared adventures.

March

You can relate the first half of March similar to January. But by the end of this month, you will see slowly and gradually the meltdown of frozen lakes and snows. The closed hotels will start reopening as the locals and the hotel owners start flying back to start their preparation for upcoming seasons.

This is the month when popular trekking season starts. The spring begins. You will witness the warmer days and also be mesmerized by the blossoming rhododendrons. However, you might witness the occasional snowfalls mildly.

April and may

April and May are the most popular months or the climbing season. At this time of the months, Everest Base Camp will be filled with climbers .

April is the peak spring season. You will experience the mild weather and enjoy the vibrant landscapes. You might find the busy trails but it will be worth .

Trekkers wait for the perfect weather to move towards the summit.

Similarly, may is the end of spring. The weather gets warmer with occasional pre-monsoon showers. The trails are quite crowded but its beautiful at this time of the month.

June to August

The monsoon begins at June. You will find the trails very slippery and unable to move upwards, clouds obscure views. Only a fewer trekkers come to trek at this time of the month in Nepal.

Likewise, July is the peak-monsoon. The heavy rain makes the weather very disturbing. The leeches all over the trails is one of the cause why trekkers avoid this month. The poor visibility makes it more annoying.

In simple words, you can say this is not ideal for trekking.

The trails/routes are slippery and muddy. Most of the hostels will be closed . You won't encounter any expeditions. You will find the rain filled below Dingboche and snow filled above this village.

Incase, if you still want to explore this destination or trek from Jiri to Everest Base Camp , you will find the routes very steep, muddy and dangerous upto Phakding.

At August Monsoon tapers. The roads will be clear. Trekking improves but still risky. The lush greenery will make the views more beautiful.

September to December

September offers you the post-monsoon beauty. You can see the clear-skies. However, you might possibly encounter fewer crowds early in the month.

This is the best or say the most favorable time for the Everest Expedition.

The october and December is comparatively more ideal with lots of trekkers enthusiastic for trekking experience. October is the peak trekking season. You will find the perfect weather and stunning views. This is the most crowed season of the year.

The demand for the flight is way more active. You will encounter the rushes even upto 5 pm in afternoon.

The trails/routes will be packed. The hotels will be congested. There are possibilities that you might need to share a sleeping room with the other fellow trekkers at Gorakshep and Lobuche.

November offers the late autumn. The crisp air, clear skies and the thinning crowds makes a favourable time for trekkers. Then again its the same, from December you can see the locals migrating towards the cities.

The weather is cold but manageable . The trails are quieter. You will see the clear views. Or say, prepare for freezing nights.

This is why everyone waits until March.

Still Confused when to go for Everest Region?

Definitely choose the time frame on Mid September and Mid December . You can also choose Mid March to Mid May.

At this seasons you will; find the best weather or climatic conditions.

Broadly speaking, you will find the trails very easy with varieties of food options cooked by professionals. You will find the hotels and teahouses for such delicious meals

However, this must be weighed against the enormous number of hikers on the paths, packed lodgings, and congested vantage places!
