You have heard about Mount Everest or many other mountains. But have you heard about Khumbila?
If not, lets know about Khumbila.
Khumbila is one of the beautiful peaks in the Himalayan region of Khumbu.This beautiful mountain is also known as Khumbu Yul-Lha.
It is situated in the Eastern Nepal within the boundaries of Sagarmatha National Park.
The lowland below the Lukla is Solu and highland above is Khumbu.
Khumbila mountain lies above 5,761m above the sea level . You will witness the panoramic views of the other majestic mountains like Ama Dablam and Mount Everest.
The prayers for Khumbila are believed to be date back to the time when the ancestors of the Sherpas were still residing in Tibet. This dates more than 500 years ago.
Broadly speaking,the interesting part of Mount Khumbila is that this mountain has never been climbed.
However, there was one attempt to submit this mountain on 1980s. Unfortunately, the climbers met the tragic death or say were killed by an avalanche.
Horrifying, isn’t it?
From then, there are no subsequent attempts seen .

More Insights On Khumbila
During the 8th century, Khumbila was a god and was subdued by Guru Rimpoche and converted into Buddhism.
Guru Rimpoche himself meditated in a cave on the Khumbila mountain, signifying its religious and historical importance.
People have considered this mountain as their guardian of their realm and worship Khumbila time and again.
In Tibet, this mountain means “ God Of Tibet”. This is why the Sherpas keep their own religious faith and belief and pray in this mountain as the home of god.
The Khumbila Region was named after this mountain Khumbila. As the mountain has the spiritual and religious beliefs, people are not allowed to climb above the tree line area.
There are definite chances that evokes the wrath of god in various forms like getting altitude sickness and other respiratory problems if you breach the tree line.
They strongly believe that if you climb on the top of Mt. Khumbila. You are climbing the head of the god.
This mountain is so sacred that during a local festival called Dumje, the Khumbila god is believed to descend from his abode to dance in the local monastery.
The mountain is not very tall in comparison to the other mountains like Mount Everest, Cho You, Annapurna and so on. But still, this peak is unreachable and unattempt.
Personal Insight
The divinity that Mount Khumbila holds is strange. People have climbed Mount Everest which is above 8000 meters but hasn’t submitted Khumbila proves that the ancient sherpas were right.
There are tales detailing the misfortune of those who tried to climb Mount Khumbila , including one story involving Sir Edmund Hillary.
They wouldn’t want to mess with god and commit any sin that would make their livelihood in danger,right?
